Valley of flowers

Rahul Mishra’s ode to florals unravels the hidden code of happiness, as the Italian embassy plays the perfect host, to an evening of unbridled glamour, under a starry night for FDCI X LFW

After two years of couch watching fashion shows there couldn’t have been a better beginning to the season of spring with the start of the FDCI X LFW at the Italian embassy. Under the twinkling stars, lush green grass, familiar faces, shimmering tunics, drones flying, and soul stirring Italian food, Rahul Mishra’s collection paid homage to florals.

As the night sky glittered from above it seemed there was a star fall on his floor sweeping rose gold lehengas as fabric butterflies flew all over short dresses. His take on volume was restricted to the sleeves, as his sometimes, risqué embroidered bodysuits and beach wear slit skirts offered us a glimpse of what could be in the offing. The shadow of the trees made a  beautiful backdrop for the show, as sounds of Amore filled the air.

Rahul proved luxury can be sustainable, it does create employment, as in the talk earlier on “Italy and India on the Future of Fashion”, Christian Foddis, President Asia Pacific, Zegna group reiterated, “Zegna created a green space around the factory. We also began an initiative titled, ‘Use the existing’ where recycled materials were added as padding in clothes.  It’s a long way to go and still a lot to be done.”

The show had both inclusivity and diversity, with Anjali Lama opening the fiesta in a butterfly winged dress; there is no one better than Rahul who understands the fine art of surface texturing as a symphony of trails and veils elevated the spectrum with rusty pinks and azure blues.

Sheer palazzos in mellow yellows layered with net, met our need for a little bit of dopamine after a challenging two years.  And the evening was made complete with live music by Manya Narang as she crooned Mujse pehli si mohabbat. What made each piece special was the attention to detail like his constructed landscape-inspired embroidered jacket. Is Rahul undergoing a metaphysical transformation? A chrysalis maybe! Probably it is a question only time will answer.
