I DON’T DO FASHION, I AM FASHION

The grandeur and scale of AICW2015 was unprecedented and the curtains came down on some of the finest fashion the country has ever witnessed. Couture took centre stage, but it wasn’t just design that caught our attention; from the sets, the organisation, to the pre and post events, everything was streamlined and top grade. Creative professionalism was at its best with the country’s finest talent in full action-from make up artists to choreographers, top models and musicians, all brought their A-game to India couture week.

This season had the highest number of offsite shows at any fashion event in the country- Manish Malhotra created his reel runway at the Leela Hotel, while Rohit Bal’s enchanted fantasy was brought to life at the Imperial Hotel with all it’s old world charm. Finally Varun Bahl created one of the grandest sets to ever be produced in the history of Indian fashion with the debut of Aurum, a bespoke wedding destination.

Which is not to say that the shows at the Taj Palace Hotel lacked any lustre, if anything the monumental sets at designer Sabyasachi and Monisha Jaising’s show respectively were proof that the setting maketh the collection. While Sabyasachi’s ‘Bater’ saw oversized cages on the runway, glamorous Monisha Jaising recreated the deck of a ship for her Sailing bride. Gaurav Gupta electrified us with his laser lights show.

A lot goes on behind the scenes to create a fashion extravaganza of this magnitude and style. It’s the guys who shy away from the spotlight who make it all happen. A team of over 50 professionals worked round the clock to bring to life this bespoke and fabulous week of fashion. From the Event Realisation team to the Lighting Designers, Backstage Management, Event Assistants and Production Teams all played their roles to the T. Venue decor, event photographs and videographers created memories to last for years to come.

Statuesque models featured some of the most coveted names in the world of  glamour, including the likes of Nayanika Chatterjee, Erika Packard, Lakshmi Rana, Sonalika Sahay, Surelee Joseph, Carol Gracias, Kanishtha Dhankar and Sanea Sheikh to name just a few. The choreographers treading these ladies and creating the requisite drama included Anu Ahuja, Media Makers, Preferred Professionals and Harmeet Bajaj.

The professional team of hair and make up experts from MAC including the renowned Mickey Contractor, brought every designer’s fantasy collection to life with make up and hair styles that complemented their creations. Make up on the runway proved to produce some of the biggest beauty trends for the upcoming season.

While AICW 2015 takes place in Delhi, the branding and reach spans horizontally and vertically across the country thanks to the Event PR team  Weber Shandwick and the branding professionals who ensure the countries leading publications, glossies, papers and TV channels catch all the action.

Year in and year out the team at the FDCI pulls this ginormous task off with ease and panache while producing the finest event in the country. Amazon.in powers the event and sponsors Sunar, Heroine, Preciosa, Hello, Fashion TV and MAC all associate with India Couture Week to make it India’s leading fashion event.
