The Fitzgerald Girl
Masaba is ready to raise the bar with her sporty line that is meant for the bold and the beautiful!
Masaba Gupta admits she is in this The Great Gatsby mode after seeing the film and lovin’ the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Being the opening designer for WIFW SS 14, she is gearing up to show her own label, and confesses she feels no pressure, “in fact, I am delighted and excited,” she says.
So for her WIFW SS 14 line she is ready with skater dresses and flouncy numbers but with a sporty twist. “We have styled it differently, so it is a bit edgy with sheer sweatshirts revved up with gold and silver Benerasi embroidery and ribbed necklines. Sportswear is a big trend internationally, Paris and New York Fashion Weeks had it in abundance,” she admits.
It is a tough trend to imbibe as it is quite bold, fitted and cut close to the body and shows off a lot of skin. So it is certainly for the fitness conscious woman.
“I am a big Fitzgerald fan, his girls don’t mind a bit of an adventure with barely there skirts and deep necklines. It is a lot about exuding body confidence,” she smiles.
House of Masaba, which was launched in 2009 will also showcase bags for the first time, and besides oversized clutches in velvet with embroidery, she has also included utility bags. “I had this thermos when I was in school which is kind of my inspiration. It has been converted into a user-friendly bag that you can carry with you at all times. We kind of reinvented that form and did it is executed in metal and finished with fabric,” she says.
With time being the biggest hindrance in putting this line together, Masaba is happy with the final outcome. “I had very little time after my Demi Couture collection, this was done in less than two months. But I am sure new-age women who like something fresh and daring will appreciate this line,” she concludes.
